Latisse® is a once-a-day treatment applied to the skin directly below the base of your upper eyelashes. A special applicator comes with the prescription to provide accurate placement of the medication.
Bimatoprost, the active ingredient of Latisse®, stimulates the growth of eyelashes.
All hairs on the body, including eyelashes go through a growth phase, followed by a stable, "resting" phase before falling out. If the growth phase lasts longer, the hairs will grow longer. If the resting phase lasts longer, there will be more hairs in the area.
The precise mechanism by which Latisse® leads to eyelash growth is unknown. However, research suggests that Latisse® increases the percent of hairs that are in the growth phase, and the length of time that they are in the resting phase.
As a result, the use of Latisse® can lead to longer, thicker, and darker eyelashes.
Patients using Latisse® in a clinical trial saw positive results appear gradually over time (starting at 4 weeks with full results after 16 weeks).
