FAQS

Rosacea Frequently Asked Questions

Why Consider Rosacea Treatment

Rosacea can be sometimes mistaken for similar conditions like acne, eczema, or even pimples. And while these conditions may be treated with topical medication and/or skincare products, the exact triggers behind rosacea symptoms need more medical intervention to manage properly. Left untreated, rosacea can quickly get worse over time.

Medical rosacea treatment is necessary to understand your specific rosacea triggers and recommend a skin treatment option that works best for your specific situation. With consistent medical treatment and oversight, you can get quick relief from your symptoms and prevent any frequent flare-ups in the future.

Medical Treatment for Rosacea Symptoms

Rosacea is a surprisingly common skin condition that can manifest in plenty of different symptoms. As a chronic disease, our patients often need help with their rosacea symptoms long-term, which means a proper skincare routine and effective treatment option need to be implemented immediately to prevent symptoms from worsening.

More than that, rosacea symptoms can sometimes mask more serious conditions like skin cancer- which is why it’s so important to get any symptoms treated to properly diagnose any condition that may be lurking underneath. Medical intervention is the best way to make sure that your rosacea is managed, aside from making sure that no other complications crop up.

Rosacea patients, especially those with severe rosacea, may develop symptoms for more than one type of rosacea at a time.

What Triggers Rosacea Symptoms?

Rosacea symptoms can often differ depending on the patient, and each patient has specific kinds of triggers that can manifest their symptoms. Rosacea patients need to understand the different kinds of triggers that can activate their condition so they can treat them more effectively.

Stress

Chronic stress is one of the most common triggers for rosacea symptoms. While the exact reason why this happens isn’t that fully understood, the theory is that high levels of stress activate your sympathetic nervous system. When your sympathetic nervous system is too active, it releases a rush of hormones that your body doesn’t need. This causes your symptoms to occur.

Sun Exposure

Sun damage from UV radiation is one of the biggest stressors to the skin, and your damaged skin cells may respond with rosacea symptoms. Hotter skin usually means a higher body temperature, which can trigger inflammation and dilated blood vessels. Increased circulatory activity can make your flare-ups much worse when they happen and more likely to occur as well.

Alcohol

Likewise, alcohol can also cause dilation in your blood vessels, making your face appear more flushed and red even without triggering your symptoms. However, since your facial skin is already inflamed, it becomes easier for other triggers to activate your rosacea since the alcohol in your system dulls what would’ve been your body’s normal response.

Environmental Factors

Too hot or too cold weather can stress your skin, which can make rosacea symptoms more likely. Because the temperature of your body is so dependent on its surroundings, quick changes in your environment can easily trigger your rosacea. This factor isn’t limited to the weather either – even simply moving into an airconditioned room on a hot day may also trigger it.

Medications

Oral medications like vasodilators, topical steroids, or beta-blockers can also cause rosacea symptoms. Ideally, you should never be using topical steroids around areas where you’ve had rosacea symptoms to begin with. But if you absolutely must, your symptoms are likely to disappear once you stop taking your medications, or at least your dosage accordingly.
