Unwanted Tattoos

At Dermatology & Skin Health, we perform tattoo removal treatments using the PicoWay® laser. The procedure is similar to getting a tattoo, only they work to break down the ink into smaller particles. The rest of the pigment is removed through your body’s own natural process. PicoWay® is safe, effective and can treat all colors of ink.

We can remove tattoos ranging from very small to very large. We handle each individual case with personalized care to assess the number of sessions that will most likely be needed.

The number of sessions required depends on several factors.

• Size
• Color
• Depth
• Age of tattoo
• Your skin type

Typically, most patients require between 8 and 12 treatments spaced about 6 to 8 weeks apart. Before treatment, your Dermatology & Skin Health provider will evaluate your tattoo and skin to create a personalized treatment plan and decide if laser tattoo removal is right for you. Our goal is to give you a clear idea of what to expect and how long the process could take.

During your first visit, your skin’s reaction to the laser will be tested to determine the most effective treatment. The effectiveness of the treatment depends on many factors such as the location, depth, size, and type of pigmentation.

Immediately following treatment, a cold or cool compress may be applied to soothe the treated area. A post-laser cream will be applied to the treated area. In the first few days, take care to avoid scrubbing the area or using abrasive skin cleansers. Strict sun protection will be needed as you heal.

Over the next few days, the treated area will be red and swollen, and will start to heal. The degree of discomfort varies with each person depending on the nature and location of the tattoo on the body.

By assisting with free treatments, we help remove painful reminders of their trauma so survivors can reclaim their lives.
