Congratulations to our very own Dr. Gary Mendese, MD, FAAD for passing the Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery (MDS) Board Examination.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This year is the first time a board certification for Mohs Surgery has been offered, recognizing advanced skill in the field. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The MDS exam standardizes knowledge and expertise the American Board of Dermatology expects of those practicing Mohs surgery. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fellowship training Mohs surgeons complete an additional year of rigorous training in Mohs surgery, pathology analysis, cancer biology, and treatment, as well as facial/nasal/mouth/eye reconstruction.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In addition to Fellowship Training by the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS), be sure to check that the doctor removing your skin cancer has also received Board Certification in MDS.
