WHAT CAUSES WRINKLES?

Wrinkles are caused by a combination of repetitive facial movements, skin laxity, and a loss of collagen. Together these factors cause lines and folds to become more prominent. As we age, our bodies lose elastin and collagen (which keeps our skin hydrated, firm, and elastic). With repeated facial expressions over time, it becomes harder and harder for our skin to return to its original “expressionless” state. As a result of aging skin, crow’s feet and frown lines develop, and nasolabial folds become more prominent.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WRINKLES & FINE LINES?

Fine lines indicate the beginning of the skin’s aging process. They are shallow, small, and may be difficult to detect at first. Fine lines are often associated with repetitive facial movements, such as laughing, frowning, smiling, or squinting. Because they are still superficial, they respond to treatments much faster than deeper wrinkles do.

Wrinkles form when fine lines are not addressed. As a result, the fine lines deepen and progress into facial folds and wrinkles. Wrinkles also tend to form in different areas of the face and neck, whereas fine lines frequently form around the eyes and mouth.

WHAT ARE CROW’S FEET?

Crow’s feet, also known as laugh or smile lines, are the lines around the outer corner of the eye. These lines appear typically in our early 30s, (or earlier without an effective skin care regimen). These inevitable lines appear as we age.

WHAT ARE FROWN LINES?

Also known as the 11’s, frown lines are the creases between the brows. Often, these unwanted lines also appear above the eyebrow and around the eyes.

WHAT ARE NASOLABIAL FOLDS?

The nasolabial folds are the deep lines located between the corners of the mouth and the nose. As we lose volume in our face, these folds become more prominent and noticeable.

HOW ARE WRINKLES & FINE LINES TREATED?

Wrinkles can be treated with injectables and non-invasive laser treatments. Botox Cosmetic and Dysport are two of the most effective and popular treatments for fine lines & wrinkles. They are neuromodulators that relax the facial muscles and soften crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines. Other injectable treatments at Dermatology & Skin Health include JuvĂ©dermRadiesse, and Restylane fillers. Fillers smooth out wrinkles and folds by adding volume to the face and hands.

We also provide Silhouette InstaLift® treatments, which tighten the skin and stimulate natural collagen in the mid-face area. These treatments are minimally invasive and do not require cosmetic surgery. Learn more here.

If you would like to treat your wrinkles & fine lines with a non-invasive laser, we use both the PellevĂ© and CO2RE Fractional CO2 systems. Both treatments rely on laser energy to stimulate new collagen and elastin.
