Dr. Mendese and Dermatology & Skin Health Team up with Impact Melanoma

We’re pleased to partner with IMPACT Melanoma – a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading awareness in hopes of reducing the incidence of melanoma around the country. They provide a variety of educational programs targeting the prevention and early detection of skin cancer and melanoma for both children and adults. One such initiative is the Skinny On Skin Program which is an educational "curriculum" geared towards teaching professionals about spotting suspect moles while they go about their daily work of closely examining skin on a regular basis. Such professional include stylists, estheticians, nail technicians, and other skin professionals.

The program is largely an online educational up, however, on select few occasions, the Skinny On Skin program is brought to these professionals in the flesh in a “classroom” type environment. That said, we’re happy to announce that the next installment of our in-person Skinny on Skin training series will be presented by our own Dr. Gary Mendese.

The event will take place at the Newburyport Senior Center in Newburyport, Massachusetts on September 11^thfrom 6:30-8:30pm. This installment of the Skinny On Skin program will, once again, educate and create awareness of how to screen for suspicious moles while performing common salon service practices.

This is a great opportunity for me to offer up some of the knowledge I’ve collected over the years, and to work closely with IMPACT Melanoma and estheticians in a professional setting is valuable to me. I strongly believe that those in the aesthetics field can play a vital role in identifying skin cancer – they look at patients/clients for a lot longer than we do! I'm really looking forward to discussing ways they can impact and potentially save patients' lives by simply continuing to do what they already do. Skin cancer is a real epidemic and physicians could certainly benefit from the input of all who have the ability to advise our patients.”
