Five tips to best care for your skin this fall and winter

Request a Visit

And in the blink of an eye, it’s fall. And in another blink of an eye, the trees will be bare, and you will be phasing out your autumn sweaters and jackets to bring in your winter gear to combat the frigid cold. Similar to this, you should also be adapting your skin care regimen around the weather at hand.

As the temperature drops, you may notice your skin feeling dryer and tighter. Of course, everyone’s skin is different, but there are universal skincare hacks to keep your skin in its best condition, regardless of the season.

Tip 1: Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize:

Have you started to notice your skin feeling dryer and flaky ever since fall began? Even if you have oily/combination skin, the winter air will start to take a toll on your skin before you know it. Find a moisturizer that best suits your skin type, and apply it after cleansing your skin in the morning and before you go to bed. (Your skin will thank you.)

Tip 2: Don’t put your sunscreen away just yet:

Just because it’s not 80 degrees and sunny outside doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be applying sunscreen. Harmful UV rays from the sun can pass through the clouds, meaning that your skin can still be negatively impacted and damaged by the sun in the colder months. Choose a lightweight, comfortable sunscreen with adequate SPF (15+) protection, and apply it daily to your face, hands, and neck.

Tip 3: Stay hydrated:

This goes without saying, but make sure to stay hydrated, as it gets colder. Water is the ultimate healing agent, and you may notice that you start feeling better in more ways than just your skins quality. Optimally, you should be drinking between eight to ten glasses of water a day, so do it!

Tip 4: Protect your lips:

There’s nothing worse than dry, chapped lips. Your lips are easily affected by the harsh, cold weather, so make sure to keep them hydrated and healthy by using a lip conditioner with SPF.

Tip 5: Wash your skin in lukewarm water:

When washing and cleansing your face, use lukewarm water to preserve natural oils contained in the skin. Using either hot or cold water on skin is extremely harsh, so make sure to find a happy medium.

Implement these suggestions into your skin routine this fall and winter. Your skin will thank you! If you find your skin is taking a large toll from the winter weather, call us and schedule an appointment to get your skin back on track!
